At Jazz Workshop we teach people how to play jazz. You or your child can take private lessons on a wide range of instruments with one of our qualified teachers. You can also learn jazz improvisation, either as part of regular lessons or as a stand-alone subject. All our teachers are experienced, professional educators. Each of them is also a working musician of note.

Music lessons available: Saxophone lessons, guitar lessons, trumpet lessons, piano lessons and keyboard lessons, trombone lessons, flute lessons, clarinet lessons, drum lessons, bass lessons, violin lessons, and jazz improvisation lessons

Jazz Workshop Teaching Faculty:

Lessons are mostly available in thirty minute and one hour slots. Students of all ages and standards are welcome.

Cost of lessons at JWA
There are three levels of flexibility and included extras available: Basic, Plus, and Pay as You Go.

  • "Advance payment, Basic" lessons paid in advance: $400 per ten week term for thirty minute individual lessons or $780 for 60 minute lessons.
    Fees must be paid in full by 2nd week of term. 1 reschedule available per term. TERMS & CONDITIONS


  • "Advance payment, Plus", lessons paid in advance: $450 per ten week term for thirty minute lessons or $880 for sixty minute lessons.
    Fees must be paid in full by 2nd week of term. 2 reschedules available per term. Includes 1 free class in musicianship, theory, composition or HSC workshop.

  • "Pay As You Go", casual lessons paid on arrival: $48 per thirty minutes.

It can be hard to find a good teacher who isn't focused on exams or eisteddfods. Especially one who will still give serious, structured lessons to ensure progress. We have taken care of that for you: Every teacher running their studio at the Jazz Workshop has been hand picked by us. If they don't meet strict educational criteria (not to mention child protection obligations), we don't invite them to teach here. Simple as that. You can rest assured that any teacher at the Jazz Workshop will give great, effective lessons.

Preparing students for HSC, school music, and university auditions is a specialty. We can also provide professional accompanists for our students for exams and other performances. We love to help students to achieve their best when it really matters. In 2009 all of our HSC students performed extremely well, most achieving 90% or higher in their music courses ("Band 6").

In 2009, every student who came to us for audition preparation got into the course they wanted. Most of these successfully auditioned for the Jazz course at the Sydney Conservatorium. Of course we can't guarantee anyone will get into "The Con": it relies on lots of hard work over a long time by the student, and depends on the mix of instruments being taken into the course in a given year. We can certainly help give a student their best chance.

Lessons are paid in advance, usually for a school term or blocks of ten. At least 24 hours notice is required to reschedule a lesson, if rescheduling is available. We will only reschedule once per term. If your account remains unpaid by the second week of term lessons will be suspended and we may make your lesson time available to someone else.
